Boaz: Jesus our Redeemer 5 Day Devotion

This five day devotional is based off of this weeks sermon with the help of sermon shots. You can watch the sermon HERE.
Day 1: Lost and Found
Have you ever felt completely lost? Not just turned around on a road trip, but deeply, spiritually lost? That's where Ruth and Naomi found themselves - destitute, hopeless, and far from home. Their story mirrors our own spiritual journey. Like them, we often find ourselves in desperate situations, searching for hope and meaning. The beautiful truth is that God specializes in finding the lost and restoring hope to the hopeless. Just as Boaz became Ruth's redeemer, offering her a future she could never have imagined, God offers us redemption through Jesus Christ. When we feel most lost, He is nearest, ready to transform our story from desperation to hope.
Bible Verse
'When she came to her mother-in-law, Naomi asked, "Where did you glean today? Where did you work? Blessed be the man who took notice of you!"' - Ruth 2:19
Reflection Question
Think about a time when you felt completely lost or hopeless. How did God reveal Himself to you during that season?
Pastor Jonathan: "I wonder how long it had been since they had any hope."
Prayer
Father, thank you that you see me in my lost moments. Help me to trust that you are working to redeem every broken piece of my story. Give me eyes to see your hope even in my darkest moments. Amen.
Day 2: The Price of Freedom
Freedom isn't free - it always comes at a cost. In ancient Israel, when someone fell into slavery, their freedom could only be purchased by a redeemer willing to pay the full price. This system wasn't just a legal arrangement; it was God's way of painting a picture of the ultimate redemption to come. We often don't realize the depth of our own bondage to sin until we try to break free on our own strength. Like a person in ancient slavery, we need someone else to pay our debt. Jesus stepped into history as our Redeemer, paying a price we could never afford - His own life. Our freedom cost everything, but He considered us worth the price.
Bible Verse
'When an alien living among you becomes rich and one of your countrymen becomes poor and sells himself to the alien living among you or to a member of the alien's clan, he retains the right of redemption after he has sold himself. One of his relatives may redeem him.' - Leviticus 25:47-48
Reflection Question
What does it mean to you personally that Jesus considered your redemption worth the cost of His life?
Pastor Jonathan: "The price of your redemption wasn't counted in dollars. It was the blood of Jesus."
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I am humbled by the price You paid for my freedom. Help me live today in the reality of that costly grace. Thank you for considering me worth the ultimate sacrifice. Amen.
Day 3: From Slavery to Family
Devotional
Identity changes everything. When we understand who we truly are, it transforms how we live. Many of us live as if we're still slaves to sin, even after we've been set free. We continue in old patterns, listening to old lies, living in old fears. But through Jesus, our identity has been completely transformed. We're no longer slaves - we're sons and daughters of the King. This isn't just a nice metaphor; it's a legal adoption into God's family with all the rights and privileges of true children. When God looks at us, He doesn't see our past slavery; He sees beloved children who belong in His house.
Bible Verse
'Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.' - John 8:34
Reflection Question
In what areas of your life are you still living like a slave instead of a child of God?
Pastor Jonathan: "You're no longer a slave. You're brothers and sisters. You're in God's family. You're perpetuating the name. You have a hope. You have a future. You are redeemed."
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to fully embrace my identity as your child. Show me where I'm still living in slavery mentality, and give me the courage to walk in the freedom you've purchased for me. Amen.
Day 4: Our Kinsman-Redeemer
Devotional
The concept of a kinsman-redeemer in ancient Israel required someone to be a close relative to act as redeemer. This wasn't just a legal technicality - it was a picture of the lengths God would go to save us. Jesus didn't redeem us from a distance. He became one of us, taking on human flesh, experiencing our struggles, feeling our pain. He didn't just write a check from heaven; He entered our world, became our relative, lived among us. This intimate connection makes our redemption personal and powerful. Our Redeemer knows us, understands us, and loves us enough to become like us to save us.
Bible Verse
'If a fellow countryman of yours becomes so poor he has to sell part of his property, then his nearest kinsman is to come and buy back what his relative has sold.' - Leviticus 25:25
Reflection Question
How does knowing that Jesus became human like you affect your relationship with Him?
Pastor Jonathan: "Jesus became human. He became one of us. Hear me. He became our relative. He became our close relative. He became one of us so that he could be a Redeemer."
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for becoming one of us to save us. Help me grasp the depth of your love that would go to such lengths for my redemption. Draw me closer to you today. Amen.
Day 5: The Only Way Home
Devotional
We all long for home - not just a physical place, but a spiritual one. Since Adam and Eve's exile from Eden, humanity has been trying to find its way back home. We've tried countless paths - success, relationships, religion, good works - but none lead us back to God. There is only one way home, one Redeemer who can restore what was lost. Jesus Christ stands ready to redeem anyone who comes to Him, no matter how far they've wandered. His invitation is open, His arms are wide, and His redemption is complete. In Him, we find not just forgiveness, but restoration to our true home in God's family.
Bible Verse
'In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.' - Ephesians 1:7
Reflection Question
What substitutes for true redemption have you tried in your life, and how have they fallen short?
Pastor Jonathan: "There is only one Redeemer, and His name is Jesus Christ. And if you will ask him to redeem you today, he will. Period. He won't hesitate."
Prayer
Lord, thank you that you are the way home. Help me to stop seeking redemption in things that can never satisfy. Draw me closer to you, my true Redeemer. Amen.
